What to Expect

KCRC is a user-friendly facility for children and their families.

Our Facilities

KCRC is a user-friendly facility for children and their families. As you enter the main entrance you will find:
An open, welcoming play area, staffed by a play supervisor who provides organized activities for children

  • Computers and other resources to help you access information on medical topics and play interactive games
  • A vending area and cafeteria available during clinic hours

KCRC facilities include large spaces for physical and occupational therapy activities and smaller, more private individual therapy and testing rooms. The therapeutic recreation program includes an indoor pool and a large gym with a wide variety of sports and leisure activities.

The greenhouse and gardens provide year round horticultural therapy for our patients. A horticultural specialist coordinates all gardening activities. The program includes seasonal plant sales and active community programs. The green house and raised beds are located in a courtyard near the inpatient unit.

If Your Child is Admitted to KCRC

Our 19-bed inpatient unit includes:

  • A family lounge for conversation, playing games or relaxing
  • A toy-filled playroom with rocking chairs, VHS tape player, videos and computer games
  • Computer with internet access
  • Coffee maker and microwave

A schedule of morning and afternoon therapies will be developed and posted near the unit nurses’ station desk. Doctors do morning rounds between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. and therapy treatments generally begin at 8:30 a.m. Lunch is scheduled at noon and rest periods are also defined.

If Your Child is a Patient in a Clinic or Day Treatment Program

Scheduled appointments will be arranged. If your child is here for more than a few hours, rest and meal times are often built into the day.
