UVA’s dental care professionals offer a full range of pediatric dental care services, from regular check-ups and cleanings to cavity fillings and applying braces.

Caring for Kids with Special Needs

The department of dentistry provides services for special needs children at the Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center. These patients - many of whom have cerebral palsy, mental retardation, developmental delay or behavioral disorders - often cannot be treated at private clinics because of their physical limitations or multiple medical needs. The services provided at Kluge include:

• Medical screening
• Preventive and hygiene care
• Restorative care
• Prosthetic and adaptive appliances
• Minor orthodontics
• Consultation and referral for complex oral surgery, comprehensive orthodontics and treatment under general anesthesia
  

Specialty Services for Craniofacial Anomalies

Our pediatric dentist, an oral surgeon and an orthodontist work with a team of specialists to provide specialized care for children with craniofacial deformities, such as cleft lip or cleft palate. These services include:

• Routine hygiene and restorative procedures before orthodontic or surgical treatment
• Feeding aids and oral prosthetics for infants
• Post-orthodontic replacements of missing teeth or related mouth or jaw structures
