I like it because it is one of those good winter comfort foods, with a healthy twist! For low calories/serving it provides a good amount of fiber. And my husband can’t even tell what I’ve done to make it healthier!
We started making turkey meatballs to satisfy the carnivore in our family and use spaghetti squash instead of traditional spaghetti pasta to go with it sometimes. I admit that we still make pasta, but rotating in the squash is a nice change!

We like to make this in winter as the curry makes for a very warming dish. It can either be used as a side dish for a barbecued or grilled meat or you can add chicken and make it in the slow-cooker for a one-pot meal.

We always struggle finding healthy munchies when friends come over or while watching movies. We found this “chips and salsa” recipe and really like it- even the kids! It’s mostly fruit so it’s healthy and sweet enough that it can even pass as dessert. Since you control how sweet the chips are you can make some sweeter and others less sweet depending on people’s preferences.

I love making my own hummus and serving it with whole grain crackers or veggies. Chickpeas are the main ingredient, and they are healthy because they do not contain any cholesterol or saturated fats. Chickpeas are also known to be effective in preventing build up of cholesterol in the blood vessels.

I really like pizza but not all the fat so I make my own personal size pizzas using a low carb pita. I saute spinach, mushrooms or any vegetable put that on the pita with some spaghetti sauce and sprinkle with low fat mozzarella cheese. I bake it at 375 for 20-25 minutes until the top is browned. They satisfy my pizza craving with a lot less calories and fat.
