Clinical Trial Description
The purpose of the study is to find out whether regular exercise helps people with asthma control their disease and improve actual lung function. The study involves a breathing test (spirometry), a body fat and muscle measurement, blood tests, asthma questionnaires and exercise on a treadmill or bicycle.
The study involves 2 randomly assigned groups: The total length of the study will be 9 months for GROUP 1 and 9-12 months for GROUP 2. Study visits will occur every 4 months, each lasting between 1-4 hours. There will be one 4-month period where you will be asked to go to ACAC 3 times per week for 4 months to work with a personal trainer on a fitness program designed with you.
Compensation
The study provides a four month membership to ACAC as part of this program. There is an initial $120 cost for the four month program which is fully refundable upon successful completion of the study.
