Clinical Trial Description
UVA Health System, Department of Surgery Division of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery seeks people over age 18 who have had a recent CT scan revealing a lung mass that is thought to be non-small cell lung cancer.
The purpose of this study is to look at whether removal of a small section of the lung (called sublobar resection) is equal to a lobectomy (a larger surgery which takes out an entire section or lobe of the lung). The overall effects (both good and/or bad) of a sublobar resection compared to a lobectomy will be evaluated.
Participants will be randomly assigned to either the sublobar resection group or the lobar resection group for the removal of the lung mass. The study involves 1 in-patient stay at the time of the surgery and 10 out-patient clinic visits over the course of 5 years. The visits may include: breathing tests (called pulmonary function tests), chest x-rays, chest CT scans, and physical exams. Each out-patient visit could last several hours.
You and/or your insurance will be billed for study procedures.
