Clinical Trial Description
Parent/Child Trio Genetic Studies of Otitis Media
UVA Health System, Department of Otolaryngology seeks families -child (ages 1-18 ), mother and father (ages 18-89 ) for genetic research study of children who have had surgery for chronic otitis media.
The purpose of the study is to learn more about genes (a basic unit in our bodies that determines individual characteristics) that you get from your parents. An understanding of genetic factors (what we are born with) that contribute to middle ear disease and earaches could help in a more effective treatment and preventative treatment.
Study involves a saliva sample from child, mother and father. The study is one or two visits, each lasting one hour.
Compensation
Compensation for travel and time is $90.
