Clinical Trial Description
UVA Health System, Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology seeks men and women ages 18 and over with untreated advanced renal cell carcinoma for a research study.
The purpose of the study is to learn how effective and safe the drug pazopanib compared to sunitinib is in people with renal cell carcinoma who have received no prior therapy. Study involves possibly taking experimental medication, blood draws and ECGs. Treatment is based upon randomization which consists of taking either oral pazopanib on a daily basis or oral sunitinib on a daily basis for 4 weeks at a time. This study may require up to eleven visits per year with each visit lasting 2-5 hours.
Study-related experimental medication, study related blood draws and ECGs are provided free of charge.
Participant's insurance company will be billed for sunitinib, standard of care tests and procedures.
