Clinical Trial Description
An Open-Label, Randomized, Parallel-Group Study of
Bendamustine Hydrochloride and Rituximab(BR)Compared With Rituximab,
Cyclophosphamide, Vincristine, and Prednisone (R-CVP) or Rituximab,
Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin, Vincristine, and Prednison (R-CHOP) in
the First-Line Treatment of Patients With Advanced Indolent
Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL)or Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL)
UVA Health System, Department of Medicine, Division of
Hematology Oncology seeks volunteers for a research study, who are
adults 18 and older with advanced indolent non-Hodgkins lymphoma or
mantle cell lymphoma who have never received treatment for lymphoma.
The purpose of the study is to compare the safety and effectiveness
of the combination of experimental chemotherapy with bendamustine and
rituximab to standard chemotherapy (R-CHOP or R-CVP). Treatment during
the study lasts five to eight months, with a follow up period of at
least five years. Study involves taking experimental or standard
chemotherapy, blood draws, biopsies, and scans and surveys of overall
well-being.
Compensation
- Bendamustine provided free of charge
- Participant's insurance company will be billed for other
medications, tests and procedures considered part of the standard care
for patients.
- Certain visits and tests required only for the research study
that are not covered by insurance will not be charged to participants
- Participant's travel and other out-of-pocket expenses may be covered by the study sponsor.
- No other compensation is provided for this study.
