Clinical Trial Description

Purpose: To identify markers of fibrosis and inflammation that correlate with recovery of atrial function following cardioversion.
Patients: Symptomatic persistent AF for at least 2 undergoing cardioversion (drug-loading +/- electric cardioversion)
Exclusions: MRI contraindications (implanted devices, claustrophobia), CHF w/ class III-IV symptoms or LVEF <40%, moderate-severe valvular disease, cancer or other inflammatory states
Study: TTE, blood sample, and MRI at baseline and again at 4 weeks
