Clinical Trial Description
UVa Health System, Department of Radiation Oncology seeks men and non-pregnant women, age 18 or older, who have pain caused by cancer that has metastasized to the bone for a research study.
The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an experimental device called ExAblate 2100 Conformal System (ExAblate CS) in the treatment of pain caused by metastatic bone tumors. ExAblate CS is an experimental treatment device that focuses ultrasound to heat a small area much like a magnifying glass can be used to focus light on a spot. Unlike light, ultrasound passes through the skin into the body to an area your doctor wants to destroy, such as a spot in a tumor to treat pain. The ExAblate CS device works with an MRI (magnetic resonance imager) so that your doctor can see the tumor and guide the treatment device during the procedure.
There are other eligibility requirements to participate in this study. Your doctor can determine whether you meet these requirements.
