Clinical Trial Description

UVa Health System, Department of Medicine, Hematology-Oncology Division seeks adults over 18 years old with myelodysplastic syndrome or chronic myelomonocytic leukemia and symptomatic anemia for research study.

This randomized phase III trial is studying lenalidomide to see how well it works with or without epoeitin alfa in treating patients with myelodysplastic syndrome and anemia. Study involves taking oral lenalidomide with or without epoetin alfa injections for at least 4 month. After completion of study treatment, patients are followed for 6 months.

Lenalidomide and epoeitin alfa are provided free of charge.

Participant's insurance company will be billed for tests and procedures.
