Clinical Trial Description
UVA Health System, Department of Surgery, Transplant Division seeks adults ages 18-65 with Type 1 diabetes who have problems with very low blood sugars for a research study. Patients may have had previous kidney transplant.
The purpose of the study is to offer pancreatic islet cell transplantation to Type 1 diabetics who have trouble controlling their blood sugars with daily insulin and diet. Study involves numerous visits in the first several months post transplant, with periodic visits for up to 5 years.
Study-related exams, tests and some medications provided free of charge.
