Virginia Driver Safety Laboratory

Provides comprehensive driving assessments for aging drivers — especially those with degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s — and people with cognitive or physical limitations following stroke or traumatic brain injury.

Service include:

• Vision testing
• Tests on driving knowledge
• Evaluations of coordination and reasoning
• Driving simulator test
• Therapy for road rage and driving-related phobias

Reports are not sent to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, unless requested by the patient.

From North: Take U.S. 29, which becomes Emmet Street. Follow Emmet Street, which becomes Jefferson Park Avenue, and bear left toward the UVA Medical Center.
From South: Take U.S. 29 to the U.S. 29 Business exit just past the I-64 interchange. At end of ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue, which becomes Jefferson Park Avenue. Bear right at traffic light toward UVA Medical Center.
From West: Take I-64 to exit 118B (U.S. 29). Take the next exit (U.S. 29 Business.) At end of ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue, which becomes Jefferson Park Avenue. Bear right at traffic light toward UVA Medical Center.
From East: Take I-64 to exit 118B (U.S. 29). Take the next exit (U.S. 29 Business.) At end of ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue, which becomes Jefferson Park Avenue. Bear right at traffic light toward UVA Medical Center.

Parking

Parking is available in the Lee Street Parking Garage, directly across the street from University Hospital and Emergency Department. Keep the  parking ticket you receive when you enter the garage. You'll receive another validation ticket to park for free when you register.

Handicap Parking is located on levels B-E of the Lee Street Parking Garage. 

Courtesy Shuttle

The medical center courtesy shuttle (PDF) provides service every 30 minutes to the West Complex the 11th Street and Lee Street parking garages.

Patient Drop-Off Locations

Patient can be dropped off in front of the West Complex off Jefferson Park Avenue and on Hospital Drive.
