Background

Biography:

Michael O. Thorner is a David C Harrison Teaching Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of Royal College of Physicians and Master of the American College of Physicians. He received his M.B., B.S and D.Sc  from the University of London.  He was honored with 1992 Edwin B. Astwood Award, Endocrine Society; 1999 American College of Physicians John Phillips Memorial Award; 2000 Endocrine Society Distinguished Physician Award;  2009 Dale Medal, British Endocrine Society.  He identified a pancreatic tumor in a patient with acromegaly from which growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) was isolated, characterized and sequenced from this tumor.  His primary research interest is the decline of GH during aging and its reversibility with GH secretagogues.
