I was born and raised in Morgantown, WV. I attended Hollins College for two years before transferring to UVA for a degree in chemistry. I received my MD and PhD at West Virginia University School of Medicine. Additionally, my doctoral research was performed at the National Cancer Institute in the HIV Drug Resistance Program.
I completed my fellowship in pediatric surgery at Johns Hopkins University and my fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at UVA. I started at UVA in 2011 and serve as the surgical co-director of the PICU. My specialty is in pediatric transplant surgery, however, I care for both pediatric surgical and adult transplant patients. I also participate in research methods of undergraduate medical education, as well as translational research on human endogenous retroviruses.
