Patient Billing

A patient may receive more than one bill as a result of a single visit. This section will help with understanding these bills.

Since billing for medical treatment is very specialized, a patient may receive more than one bill as a result of a single visit. UVA patients may receive bills from both the Medical Center and the Health Services Foundation.

Medical Center Billing

Sample Medical Center StatementMedical Center bills include hospital services associated with either an inpatient (your were in the hospital overnight) or outpatient visit. This includes services like lab work, X-rays or surgery.

Health Services Foundation (HSF) Billing

Sample Health Service Foundation StatementHSF bills represent services provided by UVA healthcare professionals such as doctors, physician assistants, dentists or nurse practitioners.
