Patient Financial Services helps uninsured and/or underinsured patients free of charge in obtaining governmental or non-governmental financial assistance to help cover their expenses for necessary medical care. Read our policy here (PDF).
UVA Medical Center Financial Assistance
UVA patients who lack financial resources or who have exhausted their health insurance benefits may be eligible for assistance from UVA. Read our Financial Assistance Policy (PDF).

If you are not eligible for financial assistance you may be eligible for our 20% discount program for uninsured patients. This program applies to most services provided through our facility. If you have health insurance or Workers’ Compensation, if you are negotiating a personal injury settlement with a third party that pertains to the reason you were seen or if you qualify for any other financial assistance program, you are not eligible for an uninsured discount.
Medicaid
To apply for Virginia Medicaid, contact the Department of Social Services in the city or county where the applicant lives. An application must be completed and signed by the applicant or applicant's legal guardian. An interview is not required.

FAMIS - Family Access to Medical Insurance Security Plan
FAMIS provides health insurance to children up to age 19 who are uninsured and who are not eligible for Medicaid or FAMIS Plus (MI Medicaid for Children). FAMIS is funded by the state and federal government. Find out more about FAMIS.
