We also provide comprehensive care for hand, wrist, and elbow injuries and disorders, and offer comprehensive foot care and reconstruction. We handle a high volume of sports-related injuries to the knee and shoulder, and offer surgical and non-surgical treatments for spinal cord injuries and deformities.

Arthritis and Joint Replacement

We specialize in hip and knee replacements, particularly in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease). Our doctors help more than 7,500 patients annually and performs more than 1,000 procedures a year.

Here at UVA, you’ll have access to the most innovative implant technologies, such as hip resurfacing, ceramics and oxinium to ensure you get flexible, strong and long-lasting implants. We're also the first in the region to offer minimally invasive (meaning small incisions) joint replacement surgery for hip and partial knee replacements.

Hand, Wrist and Elbow Injuries and Disorders

We are one of the only centers in the region to offer comprehensive care for hand, wrist and elbow injuries and disorders for all ages. We also provide 24/7 care for hand, elbow and wrist trauma.

We offer minimally invasive surgical techniques (small incisions) for injuries and disorders of the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulder, including:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and nerve reconstruction, grafting and repair
  • Sports-related injuries to the hand, wrist and elbow
  • Congenital hand disorders

Foot and Ankle Disorders

We offer comprehensive foot care and reconstruction for diabetic patients, managing treatment for complications such as:

  • Deformed feet
  • Circulation problems
  • Chronic wounds that won’t heal
  • Pain management

We also treat vascular problems in the foot and ankle, arthritis of the foot and ankle and congenital problems in children and adults.

Sports Injuries

Our McCue Center for Sports Medicine handles a high volume of sports-related injuries to the knee and shoulder, including:

Spinal Injuries or Disorders

We offer surgical and non-surgical treatments for spinal cord injuries and deformities in adults and children, including:

  • Spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spine that causes painful nerve pinching

  • Fractures resulting from osteoporosis
