Gynecological Cancer
Treatment of ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal, uterine and vulvar cancers.
Our robust gynecological cancer program serves thousands of women each year. We perform more than 550 operations a year, including minimally invasive and robotic surgeries that require fewer, smaller incisions. Thousands of women visit us each year for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of gynecological cancers.
Cancer Clinical Trials and Research
At UVA, we focus on research with laboratory and clinical trials to improve the outcomes and lives of women with gynecological cancers. Some examples include using leading-edge gene and protein markers to identify ovarian cancer early. We are also researching how obesity increases the risk and affects the outcome of gynecological cancers.
New Cancer Treatments
We're also testing new drugs and chemotherapy methods. Our chemotherapy tests include intra-peritoneal chemotherapy, where patients get chemotherapy inserted directly into the abdomen through a catheter. This allows higher concentrations of chemotherapy for longer periods of time.
