Pediatric Kidney Care
Our team of providers, including nephrologists (kidney doctors), nurses, school specialists, social workers and nutritionists, work together to help children with kidney disease and their families.
Kidney disease in children may show up in prenatal ultrasounds, or it may be noticed until the teen years. Either way, these conditions can be stressful and disruptive for the entire family.
Our team of providers, including nephrologists (kidney doctors), nurses, school specialists, social workers and nutritionists, work together to help children with kidney disease and their families. We help children manage their conditions and have as normal a lifestyle as possible. We also work closely with UVA’s pediatric urologists to treat children with combinations of kidney and urinary tract disorders.
We provide the latest testing and treatment options for infants, children and adolescents with all forms of congenital and acquired kidney disease.
Our services include:
- Hemodialysis
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Continuous renal replacement therapy
- Apheresis services
- Pamidronate therapy
At-Home Dialysis
We offer peritoneal dialysis, a method of dialysis that can be done at home during the night while your child is asleep. Our nurses train parents to do the procedure, which reduces the number of visits to the hospital and gives children a more normal lifestyle.
Clinic for Cardiovascular Health
We provide comprehensive care for patients with obesity, cholesterol disorders (hyperlipidemia), early diabetes and high blood pressure (hypertension).
Kidney Transplants
Our kidney transplant program is one of the busiest in Virginia, combining more than 40 years of experience with the latest research and technologies.
