Child and Family Psychiatry
UVA is one of the few hospitals in Virginia to offer child psychiatry, providing evaluation and treatment for children and their families.
Mental Health Issues in Children
Many mental health disorders begin in childhood, and it’s important for parents to have their child evaluated and treated if they suspect the child is having a hard time with feelings of sadness, anxiety or anger. This may help the child develop better coping skills in adulthood.
UVA is one of the few hospitals in Virginia to offer child psychiatry services, providing evaluation and treatment for children and their families. We treat a wide range of mental health disorders in children and adolescents, including anxiety and depression, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), school problems and eating disorders.
Pediatric Psychiatry in Telemedicine
We also provide pediatric psychiatry and family psychiatry care through telemedicine to regions throughout Virginia with limited access to quality psychiatric services, allowing clinicians to evaluate and treat patients who live miles away by "meeting" in front of a television screen or computer monitor.
