Your child’s care is our top priority
Children aren’t little adults. Their bodies are different. That’s why our doctors are specially trained to treat a child’s needs. Our doctors who care for children are experts in the conditions they treat and they’re working hard to keep kids out of the hospital by researching treatments today that will help make children healthier tomorrow.
A Family-Centered Approach
At UVA, families are an important part of a child’s healthcare team. You’ll be encouraged to participate in all aspects of your child’s care. And you’ll get healthcare professionals who will to listen to you and answer your questions in a way that you and your child will understand.
We embrace the racial, ethnic, cultural and economic diversity of
all families. Our programs are designed to be flexible, friendly,
accessible and responsive to patients and families.
Whatever your child's condition, your whole family may experience stress and you will probably have a lot of questions. That's why we're committed to helping you manage some of these challenges. We'll help you and your child understand how and why we're doing a test or procedure, explain the follow-up process and work with your child's school as needed.
Treatment at UVA
We treat children in over 30 different specialty medical service areas and have a state-of-the-art pediatric emergency department, as well as intensive care units for infants and young children.
Our Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center is where children from birth to age 21 come for therapy or rehabilitation after an injury, accident or surgery and for treatment of chronic illnesses like diabetes or cystic fibrosis. Parents also come to Kluge to find out why a child is having difficulties walking, talking, learning or eating, or is experiencing behavior problems.
