Whipple Surgery
The Whipple procedure (also known as pancreatoduodenectomy) is the most common operation for pancreatic cancer. It involves the removal of the head of the pancreas, most of the duodenum (a part of the small intestine), a portion of the bile duct and sometimes a portion of the stomach.
A Valuable Tool: Argon Plasma Coagulation
We were the first center in Virginia to offer this intervention to stop bleeding, to treat conditions in the pancreas and to shrink tumors throughout the stomach. This procedure also works well with metallic stents for blockages and conventional laser therapy.
