Liver Treatment at UVA
Our world-class team of specialists provides a complete range of services for all liver conditions, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer and NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) fatty liver disease, hepatoma and liver failure.
Liver Cancer Surgery
At UVA, we're performing liver resection surgery on patients with liver cancer, such as hepatocellular cancer. It's also done in those with colon cancer that's spread to the liver and patients with liver cysts, adenomas or hemangiomas. Find out more about this treatment option.
We are one of the few sites in the nation to offer this life-saving form of liver transplantation. In 2002, our center was selected by the National Institute of Health to become one of 10 sites in the country to study this procedure.
Alternatives to Surgery
When possible, we help you avoid surgery. Our advanced gluing procedure stops bleeding gastric varices, a common complication of liver problems, with a glue injection instead of an operation.
Improved anti-viral therapies prevent recurring infections after transplants.
Advanced Medications Therapy
We can achieve better disease control and outcomes for chronic end-stage liver disease with medication treatments to suppress hepatitis.
