Find out about some of the innovative rehabilitation offerings at UVA
Finding the Right Adaptive Equipment
Our orthotics and prosthetics department evaluates a patient’s need for adaptive equipment (like wheelchairs or walkers, or artificial limbs) and provides prescriptions for prostheses (artificial body parts), braces and splints.
Electrodiagnostic Laboratory
We offer the latest diagnostic testing to evaluate nerve and muscle function and nerve injuries and disorders, including carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve impingements and neuromuscular diseases.
The Neurorecovery Center
Our rehabilitation doctors develop and oversee personalized rehabilitation programs for patients with neurological disorders and illnesses, including acquired brain injuries, stroke and multiple sclerosis.
Fall Risk Assessment and Prevention Clinic
We provide comprehensive assessments for patients with a history of falls, or those who are at risk for frequent falls. Patients undergo an extensive evaluation that includes a physical, balance assessment, home safety assessment and testing of strength, range of motion and senses.
Acupuncture and Pain Management
This ancient Chinese medical practice is rarely found in hospitals in Virginia. The procedure, which involves the insertion of needles into predetermined points throughout the body, is an effective option for patients who can’t tolerate pain medications. It’s helpful in decreasing pain levels enough to allow patients to participate in a physical therapy or exercise program and return to a more active lifestyle. Our doctors who offer this treatment have a special certification in acupuncture. Find out more about pain management.
Center for Endurance Sport
Our Center for Endurance Sport offers extensive rehabilitative care for athletes of all levels, as well as training recommendations to prevent future injuries.
