- June 1967: UVA's kidney transplant program begins.
- April 1988: First pancreatic transplant is performed at UVA, establishing the first pancreatic program in Virginia.
- January 1989: UVA's heart transplant program begins.

- June 1990: UVA's lung transplant program begins.
