MOMENTUM 3: Multi-Center Study of MagLev Technology in Patients Undergoing MCS Therapy with HeartMate 3 Continuing Access Protocol
Study Description

The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia is conducting a research study to compare the HeartMate 3 Left Ventricular Assist System (LVAS) with another, the HeartMate 2 LVAS. Left Ventricular Assist Systems help a weakened heart pump blood more effectively. You may be eligible for this study if you are 18 years or older and have end stage heart failure. Patients in this study will receive the experimental HeartMate 3 device. All study patients will be followed for two years after their surgery to check up on how they are feeling and how their heart is doing. At each follow-up appointment, study related echocardiography (images of your heart) or x-rays, 6-minute walk tests, lab work, and clinic visits are provided at no cost to study participants. Travel reimbursement is offered for required follow up visits
