Official Trial Title
Effects of Inorganic Nitrate and Intensity of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health in Post-Menopausal Females
Study Description

The UVA Exercise Physiology Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology seeks females ages
45-65 who are post-menopausal for a research study. The purpose of the study is to determine how exercise and inorganic nitrate delivered in beetroot juice affects risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

You may be eligible for this study if:
- You have not had a menstrual cycle in at least 1 year
- You did not have any type of surgical procedure which may have impacted natural menopause (i.e., hysterectomy)
- You are not on hormone replacement therapy
- You do not exercise more than 3x/week regularly
-
This study involves drinking beetroot juice (either with or without inorganic nitrate), doing moderate- to highly-strenuous exercise bouts on a stationary bicycle, blood draws, ultrasound and vascular measurements, and an x-ray to determine body fat percentage. There are 4 visits spread out by at least 48 hours, each visit lasting up to 3.5 hours.

All study-related tests and procedures are provided free of charge.
