Official Trial Title
Hybrid Closed Loop Control with Prandial Insulin Dosing Informed by Insulin Sensitivity in Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes.
Study Description

The Center for Diabetes Technology is conducting a research study to evaluate a smart bolus calculator that adjusts insulin dosing for meals according to real-time insulin sensitivity in adolescents with type 1 diabetes using a hybrid closed loop (HCL) system.

Eligible participants are
• between the age of 12 to 17 years old at time of consent
• have a clinical diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes for at least one year
• currently manage their diabetes with an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system
• Participants must be willing to comply with COVID-19 precautions.

This is a crossover study which means that participants will be assigned to a treatment group and then switch to the other group midweek. The treatment groups are 1. the standard HCL system and 2. the HCL system with the smart bolus calculator.

Participation occurs as a weeklong night diabetes camp or two long weekends. Crossover to the other treatment group will occur midweek.

Hybrid closed loop control with smart bolus calculator will be provided at no cost.
