UVa Health System Center for Research in Reproduction seeks female volunteers with and without Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), ages 18 - 35, for a research study. The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of estrogen on reproductive hormones.
You may be eligible for this study if: You are a healthy woman or if you have PCOS. Symptoms and signs of PCOS include irregular menstrual periods, excess hair growth, and/or high testosterone levels. Participants must not have taken contraceptive pills or hormonal medications for 3 months prior to the study.
Study involves 9-11 outpatient visits to the Clinical Research Unit (CRU). The study will include blood draws and urine collection. Volunteers will wear estrogen patches for up to 9 days. Participants will have the option to complete a transvaginal ultrasound.
