The UVA Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center is seeking adults, ages 45 and older, for a research study involving exercise. Researches are investigating the effect of a high-intensity, aerobic exercise program on thought, mood, gait, balance and cardiorespiratory fitness, neuromuscular performance, fatigue, sleep, and quality of life for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
Interested participants must meet the following criteria:
Has Parkinson’s Disease
Ages 45 and older
Not currently exercising regularly
Able to walk without assistance
Participants must pass a physical examination and demonstrate exercise readiness.
Participation includes 7 study visits lasting 2-4 hours. The exercise intervention requires 3 visits/week for 1 hour each over 16 weeks. The total time commitment will be over 36 weeks.
Study-related assessments and exercise training will be provided free of charge.
