As a pediatric psychologist, Ashley Hampton Shields, PhD, specializes in caring for children and adolescents who have a chronic medical condition. She helps pediatric patients and their families adjust to new medical conditions, cope with medical procedures or treatment, improve their treatment adherence, and manage emotional or behavioral concerns.
Ashley grew up in a small town in central Pennsylvania. She attended the College of William & Mary for her undergraduate education, and Temple University for graduate school. She completed a predoctoral psychology internship at Geisinger Medical Center, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Before joining UVA Health in 2020, she was an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and their dog. She loves being outside, reading, baking, and exploring the Shenandoah Valley.
