Dr. B. Gail Macik’s clinical practice focuses on venous thrombotic disorders and anticoagulation. She treats patients with bleeding disorders involving platelets, von Willebrand disease and hemophilia, including sickle cell and other hemolytic anemias. She is a professor of medicine and pathology and is board-certified in both internal medicine and hematology.
Dr. Macik earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a fellowship in clinical coagulation at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. Her hematology fellowship was also completed at UNC. She held faculty appointments at Duke University and George Washington University before joining the faculty at UVA in 1998.
Dr. Macik is the medical director of the Anticoagulation Clinic at UVA, as well as director of the Special Coagulation Laboratory.
