Benjamin Stix, MD is an anesthesiologist, who helps alleviate pain and discomfort in people who are critically ill or facing the end of life.
“I strive for good communication with my patients and their families. This is particularly important in the intensive care unit, where there is a lot of complex care and difficult decision-making,” Dr. Stix says. “By offering compassionate care, I help patients through what can be a very difficult time in their lives. I was particularly inspired by reading books by physician authors Abraham Verghese, Atul Gawande, and Bernard Lown.”
Dr. Stix attended Northwestern University outside Chicago, where he majored in economics and history. He worked in management consulting before changing careers and going into medicine.
He attended medical school at Columbia University in New York City, close to where he was born and raised in Washington Heights. He also did his anesthesiology residency training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He did fellowship training in critical care at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Stix enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys cooking, literature, biking, and swimming laps. He shares, “I am a big NBA fan, and I wish the New York Knicks could finally win a title in my lifetime!”
