As a nephrologist and UVA Farmville Dialysis medical director, Catarina Regis, MD, strives to get to know her patients’ individual needs. In every interaction, she wants to treat the whole person, not just the disease.
She specializes in caring for patients who have:
- Acute and chronic kidney disease
- Kidney stones
- Electrolyte- and acid-based disorders
Born and raised in Brazil, Dr. Regis earned her medical degree from Federal University of Bahia. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine, as well as a fellowship in nephrology and hypertension at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
She joined the UVA School of Medicine as an assistant professor in January 2022.
Dr. Regis has dedicated her time and expertise to underserved communities in Brazil and the United States with experience at outpatient and inpatient settings, in academic, public, and private institutions.
Before coming to UVA, she was a nephrologist at main hospitals and medical director at several dialysis clinics in the Greater Richmond Area.
She has also worked as an internal medicine physician and assistant professor at VCU.
Outside of work, Dr. Regis enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, spending time in nature and travelling. She also has special interests in photography, art, music, and dance.
