Biography

Jennifer Potter, MD, is an anesthesiologist who specializes in caring for patients before, during and after general, orthopedic, gynecologic, vascular and plastic surgery. Her primary focus is regional anesthesia and managing acute pain, specifically with peripheral nerve blocks. She is also interested in the use of point-of-care ultrasound, specifically transthoracic echocardiography.

Potter is actively involved in resident education and is responsible for organizing an annual mock clinical exam for senior residents, teaching regular resident lectures and leading one of the resident mentoring groups. She also serves as a member of the residency recruitment committee and interviews prospective residents for the UVA program each year.

Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Potter received her undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University. She did an internship at Intermountain Medical Center in Utah, and completed the first two years of anesthesiology training at the University of Utah. For her final year of anesthesiology residency training, Potter transitioned to Stanford University. She came to UVA in 2015 as a regional anesthesiology fellow and has been on faculty ever since.

Potter and her husband, a hand surgeon, have twin toddlers. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, running and cycling.
