Biography

Joseph Carrera is a clinical instructor in the Division of Vascular Neurology and Department of Neurology in the University of Virginia Health System. Dr. Carrera is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Brain, Behavior, & Cognitive Sciences. He went on to complete medical school at the University of Iowa. He completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of Virginia, where he also held leadership roles in resident education and quality care initiatives.

Dr. Carrera takes great pride in being a member of our team providing comprehensive stroke care to patients throughout Virginia and beyond. His various research interest include imaging modalities in acute ischemic stroke, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, graduate medical education, and acute ischemic stroke trials.
