About

Biography

Kerry Ann Hudson, MD, is a board-certified doctor of obstetrics & gynecology. She joined the UVA faculty in 2022.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Hudson served as a commander in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy and had a long career serving in the military.

In 1999, she became a distinguished graduate of the United States Naval Academy. She then earned her Doctorate of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Dr. Hudson completed her residency training in obstetrics & gynecology at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia.

From 2007 to 2012, Dr. Hudson served as a staff obstetrician-gynecologist at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. While there, she served for almost two years as the Third Year Medical Student Clerkship Director for Ob/Gyn. Additionally, for four years, she ran the United States Naval Academy Internship Program at Walter Reed. From September 2008 through April 2009, Dr. Hudson served with the U.S. Army in Kabul, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. Hudson’s next tour returned her to the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where she served for several years. In April 2015, she deployed in support of Continuing Promise 2015 on USNS Comfort, the hospital ship of the Navy.

In August 2016, Dr. Hudson assumed the role of Head, Operational Fleet Liaison Medical Services. In 2016, she also served as the Medical Director for the asynchronous virtual health platform, Health Experts onLine Portal (HELP).

In 2019, Dr. Hudson became Officer in Charge of Medical Readiness Division in Norfolk. During the same time, she served as the Deputy Force Surgeon for Naval Surface Force Atlantic (SURFLANT). More than 70 ships and 34 shore commands make up the SURFLANT Force. During this tour, she served 6 months as the interim Executive Officer on USNS Comfort. In March 2020, she participated in the COVID-19 Mission to support New York City.
