Biography

As a family medicine physician, Nicole Jensen, MD, (pronouns: she/her) sees patients of all ages and backgrounds. She has a special interest in refugee health, mental health, transgender care and integrative medicine.

Originally from South Salem, New York, a small town about an hour north of New York City, Dr. Jensen has also lived in Washington, D.C., Rome, Italy, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

She first became interested in medicine when studying psychology at American University in Washington, D.C. Following graduation, she moved back to New York and attended Hunter College while working as a mental health provider at a psychiatric hospital and also as a waitress. She then enrolled in medical school at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York, where she found her passion for working with the underserved, for global health, and ultimately, family medicine. The emphasis on the patient-doctor relationship, broad-spectrum training, and work with the underserved brought her to family medicine and to UVA, where she completed residency training in family medicine.

Outside of work, she volunteers with the Medical Asylum Evaluation Clinic at the Legal Aid Justice Center. She is also interested environmental health and advocating for policies which address climate change. For fun, she loves to travel and has visited more than 20 countries. She also enjoys hiking, dancing and yoga.
