Ryan P. Smith, MD, (pronouns: he/him) is a urologic microsurgeon specializing in treating male infertility and men’s health. Smith attended the University of Virginia for medical school and his urology residency. He went on to pursue a fellowship in male reproductive medicine and surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas
Board-certified by the American Board of Urology, Smith returned to UVA in 2013 to join the urology faculty. He is co-director of the andrology fellowship at UVA, which provides training for future leaders in male fertility and men’s health. He also serves as the urology clerkship director and associate program director for the urology residency.
Smith has special interest and expertise in andrology, including male infertility and fertility preservation, low testosterone, varicocele repair, sperm extraction, erectile dysfunction, vasectomy and vasectomy reversal.
In addition to his clinical duties, Smith speaks regularly on topics related to men’s health and infertility and contributes to clinical and basic science research in these fields. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and five children.
