Whitney Thomas, FNP, is a family nurse practitioner who cares for patients at UVA Primary Care Culpeper Family Practice. Her clinical interests include cardiology, internal medicine, and nursing education.
A Virginia native, Thomas attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. After working as a bedside nurse caring for cardiology patients, Thomas decided to go back to school to obtain a Master of Science Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
“I always knew I wanted to go into medicine, and I have been very fortunate with the opportunities that have allowed me to get here,” she says.
Thomas’s inspiration: her grandmother, who was also a nurse. “She had no dream too big and always encouraged me to be the best version of myself,” says Thomas.
For Thomas, her best self is encouraging and passionate about helping patients and their families. “I am a great listener, so patient-centered care comes naturally,” she says.
Outside of clinic, Thomas enjoys spending time with her husband, trying new recipes, exploring Virginia, and loving on her Rottweiler pups.
