Heimlich Maneuver

Heimlich Maneuver Saved a Young Man

Patricia Conant, RN, has performed the Heimlich maneuver three times. Each time she acted on her instinct with successful outcomes. She urges everyone to get CPR certified and know how to perform essential tasks during an emergency.

Poison Safety Tips

  • Possible poisoning? Call the poison center: 1.800.222.1222. And take these steps:

    • Swallowed too much or the wrong medicine? Do not eat or drink anything or try to vomit.
    • Something in the eye? Rinse with running water for 15 minutes.
    • Breathed something harmful? Get fresh air right away.
    • Skin exposure? Rinse with running water for 15 minutes. 
    • Encounter with a snake, spider, bee, jellyfish, scorpion or other animal? Stay calm; don't try to catch or kill the animal.

     Call 911 if someone has stopped breathing, will not wake up or is having seizures.
