Biomedical Informatics

The Cancer Biomedical Informatics Group implements and maintains state-of-the-art information systems to support the workflow, data sharing, analysis, and reporting requirements of prospective and retrospective clinical research in cancer. Services include:

  • Consultation and development in selection or design of special-purpose software, and either in-house programming or coordination of development by University IT resource
  • Specialized patient registries and project-specific databases such as patient registries and surveys that are not well-supported by a standard CTMS
  • A Biorepository Information System to support tissue acquisition and tracking, in-lab tissue processing workflows, and quality control, for both prospective and biobanking applications. It also supports UVA’s participation in the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN)
  • A Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS), OnCore, provides centralized, standardized tracking and reporting of protocol, subject, review, and adverse event data

In addition to these services, the Cancer Biomedical Informatics Group provides information on management cost and development time, information systems, support and training as well as data sharing and the creation and maintenance of standardized security policies.
