Type 2 Diabetes Study

Researchers at the University of Virginia are investigating a non-medication approach to managing type 2 diabetes.

Study Involvement

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

Diabetes video still

  • Routine care - Continue treatment with the primary care physician
  • Lifestyle modification - Managing diabetes using blood glucose monitoring, appropriate foods and changing routine physical activity

To participate, you should:

  • Have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the past 5 years
  • Be between the ages of 24 and 75 years
  • Have a glycosylated hemoglobin of 7.0 or higher
  • Be interested in making changes in your diet and physical activity and measure your blood glucose several times a day

All participants will receive:

  • Free, comprehensive medical evaluations
  • Free blood glucose meters and 6 months of testing supplies
  • $100 as compensation
