A kidney has 24-48 hours to be transplanted. It's a small, critical window of time that requires teams of experts ready to do their part to make the transplant happen.
At UVA, we've been doing kidney transplants for over 40 years. From our surgeons to our transplant coordinators, you will find team members whose experience in the field and working together gives you the best chance for a successful kidney transplant.

The Gift of a Kidney
When Mike Miller needed a kidney transplant, he knew where he wanted to have it. A UVA employee who interacts with a number of nurses, Miller trusted the care he would receive. “It’s why I had my surgery here,” he says.
While Miller's recovery from the kidney transplant proved to be harder than he expected, the gift of a kidney from a friend made a big difference in his life.
