Hi, I'm Aditya Sharma, I'm a vascular medicine physician at University of Virginia. Most of my family was involved in cardiovascular disease so even when during dinner time, we always discussed about vascular problems and I think that's sort of where I initially started developing interest not only in medicine but actually in vascular disease. My research interest, specifically in peripheral artery disease, is mainly looking at how we can more optimally treat patients with medications. Another part of research that I'm interested in peripheral arterial disease is really looking at patients who no longer have any surgical or procedural endovascular options and what could we do to save their limbs and we are looking at different genetic studies to do that. UVA is one of those few places that will try to treat patients with vascular disease with optimal medications but for considering procedures on them. The favorite part of being a doctor comes in relation to clinical care I think is looking at when patients do really well after we do something for them is really rewarding. It gives us a lot of joy if we are able to help them out. Often, these are very complicated diseases that haven't been able to be treated that well for a long time. Patients are very happy, very satisfied, and it's great to see that.
