My name is Dr. Gina Engel and I practice family medicine in Waynesboro, Virginia. We mostly see adults, so kids 13 and up are able to come to our office, and we do a lot of preventive care. We take care of a lot of blood pressure and diabetes and do a lot of counseling. IÕve been interested in medicine since I was six years old. I was in the hospital and had brain surgery. My parents didnÕt know if I was going to make it, and at that time, I learned a lot about how hospitals work and doctors, and I decided then that I wanted to be a doctor and help people. The really great thing we have with UVA is we are a community office in Waynesboro, Virginia, but they have UVA right at the back door. So we can consult with experts online, or if they need to see those experts or have specialty tests, we can help set that up. So they really get the best of both worlds. I hate to see when people who are sick or not feeling well, but at the same time, when theyÕre able to get back to doing the things they enjoy, like being with their families and playing outside or gardening, I really enjoy being able to be a part of that. I guess IÕm just really passionate about people. I really just love medicine so much. I canÕt imagine doing a lot else.
