My name is Johann Hsu. I am a hematologist/oncologist with UVA Community Oncology. I treat both benign and malignant blood disorders as well as any type of solid tumor. The reason why I do oncology is because I've had a personal history of it with my family, so that's kind of why I chose the field that I've chosen. I think I'm most passionate about my patients and trying to give them the best care that they could possibly have using integrative approach, looking at their whole wellbeing, their mind, body, and spirit, and kind of treating them as a whole. A new patient coming to see me hopefully would get a positive experience in terms of being heard, to know their problems, what's going on. We're a very warm and friendly staff and a beautiful community practice. I think UVA is a excellent place for patients to come, secondary to the clinical care and clinical trials and excellent supportive care. I think the best part of my day would be the patients. Seeing a smile on their face or even on the bad days, I think being there for patients through the best and the worst of their lives is the most gratifying thing that I can do, the greatest honor that I have.
