I'm Dr. Amal Abu Libdeh. I'm one of the pediatric neurologists at The University of Virginia. People think of neurology as being difficult and challenging, and that's exactly I chose it. I feel like there is always something new to learn and read about, which is why I find it more exciting. My area of interest in pediatric neurology is pediatric movement disorders. It's a relatively new field, and we don't have a lot of physicians that specialize in it. So, I see kids with the tremor, kids with the ataxia, dystonia. I now have the [inaudible 00:00:33], so I see patients with different types of tic disorders as well as Tourette's Syndrome. And I work with physicians from other specialties that my patients could need, such as child psychiatrists, psychologists, and developmental pediatricians. I chose early on in my career to work with kids. I feel like it's really nice that I get to work with patients from different age groups, and that I get the chance to interact, not only with my patient, but with his entire family. In pediatric neurology in particular, we tend to follow our patients for a long time. So, I get the chance to form a strong and long term relationship with my patients. I get to watch them grow and go through different stages of their lives.
