[MUSIC PLAYING] ANUJ SINGLA: My name is Anju Singla. I'm one of the spine surgeon in the Department of Orthopedics University of Virginia. I was always interested in spinal deformities. Spinal deformities can be very challenging and treatment of kids with spinal deformity is a very gratifying feeling. That's why I always wanted to become a spine surgeon and sub-specialize in pediatric spine deformities. My kids philosophy to my patients is very individual specific. I treat every single patient as a different patient. And my approach is centered to their needs and the requirements of the care. When I see my patients and the family in the clinic I try to maximize my time by getting to know the patient, and their families, and their expectations from me. What are the problems the kid is facing at the moment with the spinal issue and what bothers them the most and tried to focus my attention on that. Because spinal deformity can have a huge impact on kids and their families, not just physically, but also psychologically and socially. And if we can change a kid's life by correcting a spinal deformity, it can make a huge difference to them. And that's the best part of my day if I can make a difference to somebody's life.
